8 Aftercare Tips that Will Make Your MiraDry Recovery Easier

If you struggle with excessive underarm sweat, MiraDry is an innovative procedure that can make a huge difference. Using thermal electromagnetic energy, MiraDry targets and eliminates the sweat glands in your underarm area, reducing sweat production. After MiraDry treatment, patients can see up to an 82% reduction in excessive sweating!

MiraDry is a non-invasive outpatient procedure. Patients can return home immediately after treatment, but you should follow certain aftercare instructions. Below are eight tips that will help you quickly recover from MiraDry treatment.

1. Ice the Area

In the days immediately following your MiraDry procedure, you’ll want to apply an ice compress to the underarm area. You can do this by wrapping an ice pack in a towel and holding it in place for several minutes. This will reduce any swelling, which is common after MiraDry treatment.

2. Apply Antibiotic Ointment

You should apply an over-the-counter antibiotic ointment to the armpit area for three days after your MiraDry procedure. This antibiotic will help prevent any potential infections that can develop when your skin is most sensitive.

3. Take an Anti-Inflammatory

It is very common to feel slight discomfort during the first few days following your treatment. You can lessen this discomfort by taking a non-prescription anti-inflammatory, such as ibuprofen.

4. Use Mild Soap

Keeping your underarms clean after your MiraDry treatment is vital. This helps prevent infection from developing. Gently wash your underarms twice a day with a mild, liquid soap.

5. Avoid Shaving

The skin under your arms will be very sensitive in the days immediately after your procedure. There will also be mild swelling. To avoid any irritation to the skin, you should not shave your armpits for at least seven days following MiraDry treatment. When shaving is resumed, use a brand-new razor to avoid infection.

6. Wear Loose Tops

To avoid any potential irritation to the sensitive skin under your arms, you should wear loose-fitting tops for the first week following your procedure. Choose tops made of soft, breathable material that allows for airflow to the underarms.

7. Take It Easy

Avoid strenuous exercise and other activities for the first week after your procedure. You’ll want to take things easy in the days following your MiraDry treatment.

Mostly, this is because you want to avoid any friction or rubbing of the skin under your arms. You also want to keep the area clean and dry, so you need to avoid activities that can promote sweating.

8. Hold Off on Deodorant

Antiperspirant and deodorant can cause irritation when applied to the skin immediately after MiraDry treatment. You should not use these products for at least five days following your procedure to give your skin time to settle down. When you resume wearing deodorant, make sure to use a brand-new stick that has not been exposed to any bacteria.
