You’re about to get a hair transplant. That’s exciting! You’re going to have a whole new look. Imagine feeling and looking your absolute best and how that is going to change your life.
For the best hair transplant results, you should prepare yourself beforehand. Your hair transplant surgeon will give you instructions, so be sure to follow those carefully.
The exact steps you need to take to prepare for your hair transplant will depend, in part, on what kind of transplant you are getting — a Neograft or a Follicular Unit Hair Transplant. Here are some of the most important things to keep in mind:
The First Step to Get Ready for Your Hair Transplant
The first thing you need to do is find the right hair transplant clinic for you. If you want personalized service and the most advanced treatments in the NYC area, Metropolitan Vein and Aesthetic Center would be glad to help.
Two Weeks Prior
You should start getting ready a couple of weeks in advance. Boost your health by stopping any use of nicotine products and by taking Vitamin C. Avoid drinking alcohol starting at this point, especially if you are getting a Follicular Unit procedure. Talk to your hair transplant doctor about any medications you are taking.
One Week in Advance
Avoid taking anything that can thin your blood, including blood-thinning medications, Vitamins B and E, and herbal supplements, but talk to your doctor before stopping any prescribed medications. If you’re getting a Follicular Unit treatment, start massaging your head for 10 minutes a day. If you’re getting a Neograft and you have light-colored hair, dye your hair dark brown.
The Day Before
Your procedure date is almost here! There are just a few more things you need to take care of. Wash your hair, but don’t use any hair products except for shampoo. Follow your transplant doctor’s instructions for whether you need to stop eating and drinking the night before the procedure. Either way, avoid caffeine on the day of the transplant. Wear a button-down shirt instead of a t-shirt or other shirt that you would need to pull over your head. Arrange to have someone pick you up when the procedure is done.
